What Is Technical Assistance (TA)?

Technical assistance (TA) is customized guidance provided by subject-matter experts, known as TA providers, who work directly with corrections facilities and professionals to support their specific needs. This partnership involves the TA provider assisting sites in improving their daily operations, implementing innovative policies, enhancing organizational culture, or addressing unique challenges.

At the onset of the TA process, a designated NPRC TA provider works one-on-one with requesting agencies to develop a targeted TA plan that focuses on their needs. NPRC TA providers are available to offer TA on a variety of topics, including data and analytics, technology, operational guidelines, professional development, and staff safety and wellness. TA can take various forms—in-person or virtually, through short-term recommendations or extended assessments, or via training or peer exchanges, among others.
